MKU to host visiting law students from Rwanda as part of drive to enrich legal education in East Africa

Mount Kenya University (MKU) School of Law is set to host law students and some faculty members from Mount Kigali University, in March. This academic exchange programme, says the Dean of the MKU School of Law Dr. Hezekiel Oira, is part of the two sister universities’ drive to strengthen legal education across borders. In this initiative, the school is collaborating with its Centre for International and Development Law (CIDLAW).“This is a testament to our shared vision of enhancing legal education through cross-border collaboration and experiential learning,” says Dr. Oira. “We seek to unlock infinite possibilities in legal frontiers.” The delegation from Rwanda will be led by the Mount Kigali University School of Law Dean, Prof. Fructuose Bigirimana. MKU wins moot court competition in Rwanda

Mount Kenya University has emerged as the overall winner of the just concluded regional human rights moot competition held in Kigali, Rwanda which was held at Mount Kigali University under the theme “climate change refugees-enhancing government transparency and accountability in the promotion of human rights” MKU’s Parklands Law campus emerged victorious , closely followed by the University of Kigali, while Ines Ruhengeri University came in at third position. MKU scooped the best male speaker award which went to Moses Mumo, while the University of Kigali received an award for Mariza Latifa, best female orator. Varsity shines in moot court competition

Mount Kenya University School of Law received the “Best Respondent” memorial award during the Save The Child 4th Annual Moot Court Competition held at Strathmore University. Five universities participated in the event held at Strathmore University Law School. Besides MKU, the others were Makerere University, University of Rwanda, Strathmore University and University of Nairobi. Each of the participants had to accomplish four rounds, two as respondents and two as applicants. In the first round, MKU squared it out with University of Rwanda, while in the second and third rounds, it faced Uganda Christian University and Dar es Salaam University, respectively. Makerere University was the final challenger. While MKU scooped the Best Respondent Memorial award, the University of Rwanda walked away with the Best University Award.
